A linear rod rail is a precision round shaft used as the running surface for linear bearings, linear bearing housings and round-shaft sliding units. DLY supplies solid linear shafts, hard chrome plated linear shafts and supported round rails for automation equipment, CNC auxiliary axes, packaging machinery, woodworking machines and industrial handling systems.
Unsupported linear rods are suitable for short spans or structures supported at both ends. For longer travel or applications where shaft deflection must be reduced, the round shaft can be continuously mounted on an aluminum support base. DLY supplies SB and TB supported rails as well as complete SBR and TBR rail-and-block assemblies.
Shaft diameter, material, surface treatment, tolerance, rail length, mounting-hole pitch and end machining can be specified according to the installation drawing. Additional shaft types are available in the DLY Linear Shaft product range.

Precision Linear Rod
The running surface of a linear rod directly affects the movement of the linear bearing. Diameter tolerance, surface roughness, hardness, roundness and straightness should therefore be matched to the selected bearing and required travel accuracy.
DLY hard chrome plated WDCS shafts are manufactured from GCr15 bearing steel. Standard specifications use a g6 diameter tolerance, HRC62±2 hardness, Ra0.4–0.8 surface roughness and straightness of no more than 5 μm per 100 mm. Available diameters range from 3 mm to 150 mm.
| Item | WDCS Hard Chrome Plated Shaft |

| Construction | Solid precision shaft |
| Material | GCr15 bearing steel |
| Surface Treatment | Hard chrome plated |
| Diameter Range | 3–150 mm |
| Tolerance | g6 |
| Hardness | HRC62±2 |
| Surface Roughness | Ra0.4–0.8 |
| Straightness | ≤5 μm/100 mm |
| End Machining | Available according to drawing |
Surface selection: Hard chrome plating improves surface protection, but it does not make a carbon-steel shaft completely corrosion-proof. Stainless steel or another suitable material should be considered for corrosive, washdown or high-humidity environments.
Linear Bearings and Supports
Linear rods can be used with closed linear bearings when the shaft is supported at its ends. Open linear bearings are required when the shaft is continuously supported from below. The shaft diameter, bearing bore, support height and housing type must be matched.

SB and SBR Round Rail
An SB rail consists of a precision round shaft continuously mounted on an aluminum support base. Continuous support reduces shaft deflection compared with an unsupported rod of the same diameter. When supplied with matching SBR-UU or SBR-LUU blocks, it forms an SBR linear motion system.
Available SB sizes include SB10, SB12, SB13, SB16, SB20, SB25, SB30, SB35, SB40 and SB50. Maximum single-rail length depends on the model: SB10–SB13 are available up to 4000 mm, while SB16–SB50 are available up to 6000 mm. Longer travel can be produced with jointed rail sections after drawing confirmation.

TB and TBR Round Rail
The TB series is a supported round rail designed for use with TBR-UU and TBR-LUU bearing blocks. Available rail sizes are TB16, TB20, TB25 and TB30. The aluminum support profile and mounting dimensions differ from the SB series, so TB and SB rails should not be selected only by shaft diameter.

Applications
Linear rods and supported round rails are used for positioning, feeding, sliding, transfer and auxiliary linear movement. Common equipment includes packaging machinery, woodworking machinery, laser equipment, inspection devices, material-handling systems, industrial fixtures and automated production equipment.

Custom Processing
Standard and specified lengths can be supplied according to shaft diameter, rail series and transportation requirements.
Threads, steps, flats, retaining-ring grooves, tapped holes and other end details can be processed according to the drawing.
Rail length, end distance and mounting-hole position can be confirmed according to the machine base and installation drawing.
Shafts, supported rails, linear bearings, bearing housings and matching blocks can be supplied separately or as an assembly.
FAQ
Q: Is a linear rod rail the same as a profile linear guide rail?
A: No. A linear rod rail uses a round shaft with a linear bearing. A profile linear guide uses a profiled rail and recirculating block. Their mounting dimensions, load characteristics and sliding components are different.
Q: What is the difference between an SB rail and an SBR system?
A: SB identifies the supported round rail itself. SBR normally identifies a complete supported round-rail system or the matching SBR bearing block. The required supply form should state whether the order includes only the rail or both the rail and blocks.
Q: Can an SBR block be installed on a TBR rail?
A: SBR and TBR use different support profiles and block structures. They should not be treated as interchangeable only because the shaft diameter is the same. The rail cross-section and block dimensions must be checked.
Q: When is a supported round rail required?
A: A supported rail is generally selected when an unsupported shaft would deflect excessively over the required span. Load, travel length, shaft diameter, support arrangement and permitted deflection should be considered together.
