The SBR12 linear shaft is a 12 mm supported round guide consisting of a round shaft mounted on a continuous support rail. Unlike an unsupported 12 mm shaft, the support underneath the shaft helps limit deflection over longer travel distances and provides a stable mounting surface for the complete linear axis.

The SB12 specification has a 15 mm shaft center height, a 100 mm mounting-hole pitch and a catalog weight of 1.40 kg/m. Bearing steel and high-carbon steel shaft options are available for different operating and purchasing requirements.

Standard listed lengths are 150, 250, 550 and 850 mm. Custom single-piece lengths can be supplied up to 4000 mm, while longer axes may be assembled by joining multiple rail sections after the mounting layout has been confirmed. Other shaft products are available from the DLY linear shaft range.

Product Structure

An SBR12 supported linear shaft is different from a standalone precision rod. The round shaft is installed on a continuous support profile, allowing loads to be transferred through the support and into the machine base. This structure is useful when a 12 mm unsupported shaft would experience excessive bending over the required travel length.

The support base also provides a defined mounting-hole arrangement. This simplifies positioning on a machine frame and helps maintain support along the full working length. The mating carriage normally uses an open-type linear bearing block designed for a 12 mm supported shaft. The bearing block should be specified separately unless a complete rail-and-block assembly is requested.

SB12 Dimensions

SB12 12 mm 17 mm 20.46 mm 34/32 mm 15 mm 4.5 mm 15 mm 6 mm 9.8 mm 25/22 mm

All dimensions are in millimetres. The paired B and C values are retained from the SB12 catalog drawing. SB10, SB12 and SB13 dimensions are reference values; final dimensions should be confirmed against the supplied product or approved drawing.

Lengths and Mounting Holes

The SB12 catalog lists four standard rail lengths. Custom lengths may be produced within the maximum single-piece length, subject to confirmation of the final hole positions and end distances.

Standard Lengths L End Distance N Hole Pitch P Maximum Single Length
150, 250, 550 and 850 mm 15 mm 100 mm 4000 mm

When a rail length differs from the listed standards, the relationship between total length, end distance and 100 mm hole pitch must be checked before production. For lengths exceeding 4000 mm, multiple sections can be joined according to an approved layout. The machine base should provide continuous support beneath each rail section.

Materials

SBR12 round shafts are available in bearing steel and high-carbon steel. The suitable material should be confirmed according to the required operating environment, service life and mating bearing arrangement.

The shaft surface, support profile, mounting-hole positions and joint arrangement are checked according to the requested rail length. Material, surface requirements and dimensional tolerances should be stated on the drawing when the application requires a non-standard configuration.

Installation

  1. Prepare a flat, clean mounting surface with enough width to support the complete rail base.
  2. Position the rail according to the 100 mm mounting-hole pitch and the specified end distance.
  3. Tighten the mounting screws gradually along the rail instead of fully tightening one end first.
  4. For two parallel rails, align the reference rail before adjusting the second rail.
  5. Move the carriage through the full stroke and check for binding before the machine enters operation.
Important: Load capacity cannot be determined from shaft diameter alone. Rail spacing, block quantity, load direction, mounting accuracy, travel length and operating speed must also be considered.

Applications

Compact CNC and engraving equipment
Inspection and measuring systems
Small assembly and transfer mechanisms
Packaging and laboratory equipment

SBR12 is most suitable when the machine requires a compact 12 mm round-shaft system but also needs continuous support beneath the shaft. For larger supported shaft diameters, see the SBR16 linear shaft and SBR20 linear rail.

Supply and Customization

DLY supplies SB12 supported round guides from one piece. Standard and custom lengths are available, and longer rail assemblies can be prepared as joined sections after drawing confirmation. The rail length, hole layout, shaft material, required quantity and matching bearing block should be confirmed before production.

For SBR12 dimension confirmation, custom lengths or matching bearing-block selection, contact DLY with your required rail length, quantity and installation drawing.
