The DLK8 setscrew type curved jaw coupling connects two rotating shafts through two aluminum alloy hubs and a polyurethane elastomer. The positioning screws secure the hubs directly to the shaft surfaces, providing a simple and compact connection for motors, ball screws and other rotating drive components.

During operation, torque passes from one aluminum hub through the polyurethane elastomer to the second hub. The elastomer absorbs vibration and cushions shock while compensating for limited parallel, angular and axial misalignment between the connected shafts.

DLY supplies DLK8 setscrew curved jaw couplings with outside diameters from 14 to 105 mm, rated torque from 1.1 to 430 N·m and maximum rotational speeds from 5,500 to 19,000 rpm. Different d1 and d2 bore combinations can be selected according to the motor shaft and driven shaft dimensions. More shaft connection options are available in the DLY coupling series.

DLK8 Setscrew Type Curved Jaw Coupling

The DLK8 is a three-piece flexible coupling consisting of two aluminum alloy hubs and one polyurethane elastomer. Curved jaws on both hubs engage with the elastomer to form a compact torque-transmission assembly.

Each hub is fixed to its shaft with positioning screws. When the screws are tightened, their ends press directly against the shaft surface or a prepared shaft flat. This fixing method requires little installation space and is commonly used for compact motor-driven mechanisms.

The two hubs can have identical or different bore diameters. This allows one coupling to connect, for example, a motor shaft with a 10 mm diameter to a ball screw end with a 12 mm diameter.

Coupling Structure and Function

Aluminum Alloy Hubs

The two lightweight hubs connect the driving and driven shafts. Their relatively low mass helps limit rotational inertia.

Polyurethane Elastomer

The elastomer transfers torque between the curved jaws while absorbing vibration and cushioning sudden loads.

Positioning Screws

The screws secure each hub directly to the shaft. A shaft flat may be used to improve positioning and reduce the possibility of shaft marking or movement.

Performance Characteristics

  • Absorbs vibration generated by motors, shafts and driven mechanisms.
  • Compensates for parallel misalignment up to 0.02 mm.
  • Compensates for angular misalignment up to 1°.
  • Allows limited axial shaft displacement of up to +0.60 or +0.80 mm, depending on the coupling size.
  • Provides identical rotational characteristics in clockwise and counterclockwise directions.
  • Polyurethane elastomer offers oil resistance and electrical insulation between the two hubs.
  • Two elastomer hardness options are available for different torsional stiffness and vibration-damping requirements.
  • Different d1 and d2 bores can connect shafts with different diameters.

Model Number Identification

DLK8-30-1012

DLK8: Coupling series

30: 30 mm coupling outside diameter

10: 10 mm d1 bore

12: 12 mm d2 bore

Therefore, DLK8-30-1012 represents a DLK8 setscrew type curved jaw coupling with a 30 mm outside diameter, a 10 mm bore on one side and a 12 mm bore on the other side.

If a keyway is required, the letter K is added after the outside-diameter code. For example, DLK8-30K-1012 represents a customized keyway version. Keyway dimensions should be confirmed before production.

Standard DLK8 Models

Eleven standard outside-diameter sizes are available. The model should be selected according to shaft diameters, operating torque, peak torque, rotational speed and available installation space.

Dimensions and Technical Data

The dimensional drawing identifies the coupling outside diameter D, overall length L, hub length L1, elastomer length L2, hub clearance S and positioning-screw location M. DLK8-14 through DLK8-30 use the smaller-body drawing, while DLK8-40 through DLK8-105 use the larger-body drawing.

Note: Moment of inertia and mass values are calculated using the maximum available bore diameter for each coupling size.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can the two sides have different bore diameters?
Yes. The d1 and d2 bores can be different. For example, DLK8-30-1012 has a 10 mm bore on one side and a 12 mm bore on the other side.
Can a keyway be added?
Yes. A keyway can be produced as a non-standard option. The letter K is added after the outside-diameter code, such as DLK8-30K-1012. The required keyway dimensions must be confirmed before production.
Can the coupling compensate for shaft misalignment?
The polyurethane elastomer can compensate for limited parallel, angular and axial misalignment. However, the shafts should still be aligned as accurately as possible during installation.
What information is required for a quotation?
Please provide the d1 and d2 shaft diameters, operating torque or motor power, rotational speed, required quantity and whether a keyway is needed.
