Rolled Thread Ball Screws for Industrial Linear Motion

DLY rolled thread ball screws, also called cold-rolled ball screws, convert rotary motion into smooth and efficient linear movement. The screw thread is formed through a rolling process instead of precision grinding, making this type of ball screw a practical choice for general industrial systems that require reliable motion, standardized sizes and controlled purchasing costs.

DLY supplies rolled ball screw assemblies in C7 and C10 accuracy grades. Available configurations include standard single nuts, double nuts, compact nut structures and large-lead designs. The screw shaft, nut type, lead, length and shaft ends can be selected according to the machine structure and operating requirements.

Rolled Ball Screw Construction

A rolled ball screw assembly consists of a threaded screw shaft, a ball nut, recirculating steel balls and return components. As the shaft or nut rotates, the balls roll between the matching grooves and circulate through the nut. This rolling contact produces lower friction and higher transmission efficiency than a conventional sliding lead screw.

The screw shaft is normally manufactured from S55C steel, while the nut is normally manufactured from 20CrMo alloy steel. Heat treatment, thread finishing, straightening, assembly and inspection are applied according to the product series and order requirements.

Available Rolled Thread Ball Screw Series

Series General Configuration Selection Purpose
SFU / SFA Flanged single-nut designs General CNC and automation transmission systems
DFU / DFI Double-nut designs Applications requiring greater axial rigidity and controlled backlash
SFE / SFY Large-lead or high-speed configurations Systems requiring more linear travel per revolution
SCI / SCM Compact cylindrical nut configurations Assemblies with limited nut installation space

The appropriate series must be selected according to the available installation space, required stroke, axial load, operating speed, mounting orientation and acceptable backlash. Model availability and detailed dimensions should be confirmed before ordering.

Why Choose a Rolled Thread Ball Screw?

Cost-Effective Standard Production

Thread rolling supports efficient production of standardized screw shafts. Rolled ball screws are therefore widely selected for general industrial machines where dependable linear transmission and purchasing cost both need to be considered.

Smooth and Efficient Motion

Recirculating balls reduce sliding friction between the screw shaft and nut. This helps provide smooth travel, efficient power transmission and lower drive torque compared with ordinary sliding screw mechanisms.

Multiple Nut Structures

Different nut configurations allow the assembly to be matched to installation space, load direction, rigidity and backlash requirements. DLY can help compare suitable series after receiving the machine parameters and installation drawing.

Customized Shaft Ends

Shaft ends can be machined for bearing supports, couplings, locknuts and motor-side connections. DLY accepts dimensional drawings, STEP files or clearly marked samples for processing confirmation.

Rolled or Ground Ball Screw Selection

Rolled ball screws are normally selected for general CNC equipment, automation machinery, transfer systems and other applications in which C7 or C10 accuracy meets the positioning requirement. They offer a practical balance between motion performance, availability and cost.

If the machine requires tighter lead accuracy, more demanding positioning control or a higher precision grade, consider a precision ground ball screw . For projects specifically requiring C7 accuracy, see the DLY C7 cold rolled ball screw page.

Rolled Thread Ball Screw FAQ

Q: What accuracy grades are available for DLY rolled ball screws?

A: C7 and C10 are the standard accuracy grades for rolled thread ball screws. The appropriate grade depends on the machine's positioning and travel accuracy requirements.

Q: Can DLY machine the shaft ends according to my drawing?

A: Yes. DLY can machine bearing seats, threads, keyways, flats, grooves and stepped ends according to an approved drawing. Please provide complete dimensions and tolerances before production.

Q: Can I order the ball screw together with its support units?

A: Yes. Ball screw support units, nut housings, couplings and motor brackets can be supplied with the screw-and-nut assembly. The matching dimensions should be confirmed as one complete set.

Q: How should a rolled ball screw be maintained?

A: Keep the screw raceway clean and properly lubricated. Prevent chips, dust, water and corrosive materials from entering the ball nut, and check the lubrication condition according to the machine's operating environment and duty cycle.
